In his presentation at the 2020 ARC Industry Forum in Orlando, Florida, Michael Fry of Deepwater Subsea discussed how assessing asset condition and performance with predictive maintenance and analytics can help reduce/prevent unplanned downtime and improve asset reliability. Intelligent, data-driven maintenance extends the scope to include real-time information from assets using IIoT and edge devices. Critical business processes include managing maintenance activities and converting high-priority alerts into work orders to execute the appropriate inspection, maintenance, and repair, ideally before failure occurs. This can be challenging for maintenance teams, since systems on oil rigs are often remote and data flows intermittent.
