Faster Implementation and Flexibility Drive the Growth of Autonomous Mobile Robots

New ARC Advisory Group research on the Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) market reveals that it can be implemented somewhat faster than laser guided vehicles, and significantly faster than other forms of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or other types of automation.  Additionally, they offer much greater flexibility in terms of being able to adjust to changes on a factory or warehouse floor, or in terms of the ability to use these vehicles in other facilities.

“This is a young and fast-growing market.  The growth is fueled by the difficulty in hiring workers that want to work in warehouses or factories in North America and Europe, the increased flexibility of these solutions, the boom in e-commerce, and significant venture capital investments in many of the suppliers in this market,” according to Steve Banker, Vice President, Supply Chain Services at ARC Advisory Group and key author of ARC’s Autonomous Mobile Robots Global Market Research report.

“The ability for robots to pick and move autonomously would be a very significant development.  Currently, SCARA arms are too big and bulky for use on autonomous mobile robots.  But there are intriguing developments in this area,” added Banker.
