ARC Best Practices Workshop
Building the Value Proposition and Requirements for Sustainable Digital Twins

September 15, 2020 - Online

The term "Digital Twins" is used extensively in multiple industries.  Digital twins provide a digital representation of an asset, product, or process that mirrors the behavior of its real-world counterpart.  Digital twins are built for specific work processes, however often not scalable across different roles and work processes used by other functional organizations.  While digital twins certainly enhance collaboration, this alone is not enough to transform asset performance and business performance.  Digital twins need to be interoperable with other systems and serve as "sustainable living models" and provide a platform and foundation for an asset owner to redefine the operations and maintenance work process and improve business performance and remove structural cost from manufacturing or production operations.

Workshop Objectives

The purpose of this interactive user only workshop is to develop the vision and requirements for digital twins for brownfield operations and maintenance applications.  It is designed to give answers to the following questions:

  • What is required of digital twins to help break down the silo mentality and improve collaboration, knowledge, and understanding?
  • How can digital twins be more effectively used to enable more efficient work processes in operations and maintenance? (Example: field operator rounds or maintenance planning)
  • How does data architecture and interoperability play a role in ensuring digital twins are “living models”?
  • What work process changes are needed by design engineers and operational groups to produce a better, more efficient, and cost-effective design?
  • Assuming that there are specific foundational systems I already have, what is a feasible architecture?
  • How can we address the receiving and use of greenfield models handed over from capital projects?
  • What are the high value prioritized use cases for those models?
  • How do I remove structural costs from my current business/workflows using these models?

Agenda

The workshop will consist of asset-owners presenting their use cases and value proposition with initial digital twin requirements.  This will be followed by a select few supplier presentations on their digital twin visions and a group brainstorming of the industry needs.
