Project Success Story

Client and Project Scope:  A global oil and gas major wanted to ensure compliance to local air pollution regulatory norms by reducing Sulfur Dioxide (SO2 ) emission by modification in the Sulphur Recovery Unit Emission for Global Oil & Gas(SRU) while protecting financial viability of the existing refinery. L&T Technology Services (LTTS) was chosen as the preferred partner as it brings over 80 years of field experience in the oil and gas sector. Having worked on 200+ platforms and 4,500+ kms of pipeline projects, LTTS knows about the challenges and opportunities in the energy industry. In digitalization, LTTS’ work spans across digital machines, digital oil wells, and digital operations.

LTTS had to examine the facility and suggest configuration alternatives that meet the regulation, consider the long-term most probable regulatory end state, and provide economic non-accretive returns to recover margin or operating cost losses.

LTTS’ Viable Solution:

  • New and modified equipment related to the project designed at a minimum reliability target of 97 percent.
  • Met safety and environmental standards in design, operations integrity, and construction.
  • No pre-investment suggested for expansion, except for tie-ins for a future 99.9 percent recovery technology addition to the SRU.

Tangible Business Benefits: Due to high quality of IPV (Industrial Product-Support Vendor) specification, there were very few technical queries from vendors. The package could still be finalized and purchase order placed on time as per schedule. Other benefits include:

  • Suggested significant capital efficiency in process bypass lines.
  • Organized interface management with customer and IPV to finalize engineering activities.
