PTC Extends Windchill PLM Platform and Delivers On Microsoft Azure

PTC announced the enhancement of its Windchill product lifecycle management (PLM) platform with integrated software management and systems engineering capabilities.  The addition of these technologies enables full product traceability and provides stakeholders with key insights throughout the product development and manufacturing cycles.

Windchill now includes built-in linking and tracing between its native product data management capabilities and systems engineering, requirements management, source code management, and testing – powerful capabilities inherent in the current Integrity products, which will be rebranded under Windchill.

This view of PLM enables designers to identify dependencies, view design progress, and understand improvements and exceptions.  PTC is positioned to provide this extended PLM solution as it is a leading PLM vendor with all these lifecycle collaboration products under one roof.

Core to the enhanced offering, PTC is using OSLC (Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration), an OASIS industry standard, to integrate its Integrity application lifecycle management and systems engineering brand into Windchill.  In addition, PTC is also extending PLM linking and tracing with its ThingWorx Flow solution for collaboration.

The enhanced Windchill platform is expected to be available this summer, while the Integrity Lifecycle Manager and Integrity Modeler products will be rebranded later this year.

Windchill PLM Now Available on Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform

PTC also announced that it has expanded its strategic alliance with Microsoft by delivering its Windchill product lifecycle management (PLM) solution on Microsoft Azure.  Enhancing Windchill with Azure is a result of the growing partnership between the two companies.

PTC’s solutions leverage the digital foundation of Azure to help enable users to drive digital design, product and service innovation, manufacturing efficiency, service optimization, and heightened sales and marketing experiences.

Through the new software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering of Windchill on Azure, users can help to accelerate their evolution from basic product data management to enterprise PLM with a more simplified deployment and upgrade process.  Standard out-of-the-box PLM functionality is configured through an open architecture to help reduce deployment costs and times, as well as to help lower total cost of ownership.

The PTC and Microsoft relationship leverages the combined technology and expertise of both companies to delivering solutions for industrial environments.  Since the initial announcement of the alliance in 2018, the two companies have collaborated on integrating Azure IoT with PTC’s ThingWorx industrial internet of things (IIoT) solution platform, which helps users to create new products and helps to improve operations with IoT connectivity, increased contextualization, business systems orchestration, and higher user engagement via mixed reality.  PTC recently announced built-in support for Microsoft HoloLens 2 with its Vuforia product.
