Noerr

Thomas Thalhofer, Partner at the European law firm Noerr, will hold a presentation on the current situation of data ownership on European and international level.

Digitalization is profoundly and rapidly changing almost every area of business, society, and our daily lives. The internet, mobile communications and digital applications have come to be taken for granted. And now the “Internet of Things” is also becoming a reality, as more and more products and machines become networked with one another, e.g., in the smart factory. Digital technologies will alter the processes of adding value and innovation – sometimes in evolutionary ways, and sometimes disruptively.

In that more and more digitalized world, lots and lots of data is aggregated. Such data is very valuable, and indeed will become one of the most important resources in the coming digital economy. But who is the owner of this valuable data? Who has usage and access rights? As often, the law is still lagging behind the technical development and does not provide easy answers to these questions. The presentation provides an overview on data ownership laws in the EU and gives tips for enterprises on how to secure their position with regard to this valuable data.
