On May 16th and 17th 2017, ARC Advisory Group will host its European Industry Forum (EIF) in the Meliã Hotel Sitges in Spain.  The European Industry Forum is part of ARC’s successful series of worldwide conferences in the USA, India, China, and Japan.

May Roca, Statistical Manager at The Dow Chemical Company, will give a presentation that highlights the process by which the Dow Chemical Company has moved to a predict & prevent operational paradigm to deliver sustainable value and the substantial associated ROI.

Most of the manufacturing the process data collected is at best underutilized, at worst simply archived in various process historians, LIMS or other databases.  Yet moving to addressing potential process issues predictively before they find their way into final product quality is critical for every manufacturer.  Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) enables organizations to unlock the potential and value of process data by applying analytics in real time and making the results immediately available in context to all levels of the organization.  This is a fundamental step for immediate awareness, discussion and understanding, action taking and knowledge storage. This process is the cycle of knowledge building and allows the manufacturing organizations to listen to their plant’s signals and respond to them in a sustainable manner.

The Dow Chemical Company is utilizing EMI to improve the connection of analyzed data with the operations to impact production in real time.  There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.  Every manufacturing environment is unique and every internal customer has different needs; but EMI is flexible enough to allow us to tailor it to the final customer’s requirements.  Dow maintains that EMI is not a tool, but an enabler that allows our manufacturing environments to go through a culture change in which we move from a reactive to a proactive approach when dealing with process support.  The Dow approach is initially very targeted, but over time the systems grow and becomes more encompassing.
