Bosch, a leading technology company based in Germany, is expanding its business to include water treatment technology for the production of green hydrogen. The production of green hydrogen requires ultrapure water, and Bosch aims to provide Water Treatmentspecial-purpose water treatment systems that can be used anywhere, even in remote areas. These systems are designed to be economical, environmentally friendly, and eliminate the need for chemicals in water treatment. Bosch believes that its broad portfolio, which includes technology for water treatment, as well as the generation, compression, storage, and use of hydrogen, sets it apart from other companies.

The water treatment technology developed by Bosch is essential for the electrolysis process in hydrogen production. Impurities in water can quickly render electrolyzers inoperative, making ultrapure water crucial. Bosch's special-purpose water treatment systems are designed to meet the challenges posed by remote and offshore locations, where distances and water quality make treatment difficult. The company expects a high demand for such systems, with an estimated requirement of 500 units per year worldwide starting in 2035.

In addition to special-purpose systems, Bosch plans to expand its portfolio to include industrial systems for water treatment in developed areas. These systems will use reverse osmosis processes and ion exchangers to provide ultrapure water for electrolyzers. Bosch's water treatment technology is not only geared towards hydrogen production but can also contribute to maintaining valuable drinking water reserves. The company's efficient systems reduce the feedwater required for electrolysis and can be adapted to produce drinking water in areas where it is scarce.
