Under the motto “Driving Digital Transformation in Industry and Cities”, ARC Europe held its European Industry Forum on May 21-22 in Sitges, near Barcelona, in sunny Spain.  Since the forum was moved to this location three years ago, it has enjoyed a steady growth of participants.  This year, the forum welcomed 130 industry experts from 21 countries, making it a truly international event.

The Tidal Wave of Digital Transformation

Industry players need to know how to navigate today’s tidal wave of digital transformation and to make what might be perceived as disruptive technologies work to implement the right mix of technologies at just the right time.  This year’s forum highlighted these topics: additive manufacturing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, asset performance management, blockchain, cybersecurity, edge infrastructure, cloud platforms, IoT, IT/OT/ET convergence, manufacturing execution systems, and industrial communications.

To support end users in these transformative times where everything is connected and intelligent, ARC invited end users, industry associations and other experts to introduce and explain new technologies, showcase important developments, and present relevant application examples.

Plenary Sessions, Workshops and Break-Out Sessions

The forum featured plenary sessions, workshops, and break-out sessions, covering all the current topics of industrial automation for the discrete and the processing industries. The agenda also included workshops on cybersecurity, TSN, data analytics, additive manufacturing, and asset performance management that were well visited and resulted in lively and constructive discussions. Next to the highly informative plenary sessions, it is the hands-on workshops that attract the most interest and yield the highest value, according to feedback from participants.

Networking opportunities during the forum were extensively used, be it during the coffee breaks or the evening events.  Meeting and exchanging ideas and opinions in a more relaxed setting has become one of the unique aspects of ARC Industry Forums.
