ARC Report Abstract

Overview

During a session at ARC Advisory Group’s 2018 Industry Forum in Orlando, Florida, three end users presented their views on, and experience with, analytics and its impact on corporate performance.

Renzo Rondags from DSM Dyneema discussed the company's path to a data-driven organization.  Jared Witte from Kuraray, explained how its US site started using analytics to replace tribal habits with analytics-based decisions to predict and prevent process issues.  Bill Schuler from BASF explained how real-time analytics helps the company reduce safety incidents.  Each company had to determine the critical parameters that influenced the desired result most; each encountered cultural barriers, and each company took major steps to achieve desired plant and people behaviors.

DSM Dyneema's Road to a Data-Driven Organization

Impact of Analytics on Corporate Performance at DSM valanalytics.PNGRoyal DSM is a global science-based company in health, nutrition, and materials. Dyneema, the company's brand for ultra-high molecular weight-aligned polyethylene molecules, is the world’s strongest fiber.  The fiber can resist 400 times its own weight, almost twice the resistance of the second strongest fiber, Aramid, and more than 15 times the resistance of a steel fiber.  DSM's strategy for 2018 is to drive profitable growth from a recently revamped portfolio of activities.  The data- and analytics-related activities aim to contribute to these goals by increasing production volumes, reducing downtime, and improving process stability.
