Schneider Electric launched a new service that will help industrial manufacturers to modernize their programmable logic control (PLC) and programmable automation control (PAC) systems more easily, safely and cost effectively, in time periods that have been documented to be in less than one hour in certain cases. By helping to reduce downtime and disruption to the operation, the service provides easier migration to the company’s Modicon M580 PACs. With built-in Ethernet capability and higher levels of processing power and memory, the Modicon M580 ePAC is a PLC/PAC that has been documented by some hybrid application customers as providing 100 percent ROI within three months.
Modernizing to more value-focused technology
The migration service utilizes a combination of a Unity M580 application converter with a migration expert configuration utility tool, which identifies operational gaps and provides recommendations to solve each customer’s unique systems challenges. This combination enables customers to convert Unity software applications on both Quantum and Premium platforms to be compatible with the M580, while providing the option to produce a pre-engineering proposal for new M580 I/O. A quick wiring system for the TSX Premium processor has been documented to allow upgrades to be completed in less than one hour in certain cases.

Efficiencies gained by some customers using the Modicon M580 ePAC have helped to speed up project execution and create more accurate and effective control over the plant’s operational profitability. Besides added operational benefits, it has been documented by some customers that using the Modicon M580 ePAC has helped in certain cases to reduce time to market by up to 25 percent; reduce process energy consumption by up to 30 percent; reduce the likelihood of cyberattacks; improve productivity of high-volume manufacturing applications by over $2 million annually; and improve bottom-line performance of medium to large manufacturing facilities by over $1.3 million annually.
