Safety, Security, and Profitability Come Together at Triconex Users Group

Summary

ARC Advisory Group recently attended the Triconex Users Group Conference in Galveston, TX.   Attendance was up at nearly 200 end users from 14 countries. This year’s theme, “Stay Safe and Secure Together,” focused on cybersecurity in light of the recent Triton attack.  The secondary theme, was “Profitable Safety.” The two-day event also included product roadmaps, discussions of current safety standards, and end user case studies.

Chris Stogner, Triconex Offer Director, presented on the latest offerings available from Schneider Electric.  These include:

• SIF Manager supports the IEC 61511 part 16 clauses with automatic analysis and reporting of SIF demand rate performance, bypass performance, trip performance statistics, device failure statistics, live statistics, proof test tracking, fault tracking, dynamic PFD calculation and more. According to the company, implementing SIF Manager at a $25 million revenue per day refinery with 2,000 SIFs and 10,000 SIS devices, with four to seven trips per year, calculates to an ROI of six months based on labor savings, or two days based on reduced turnaround time.
• Trip Analyzer, a “lighter” version of the SIF Manager. Instead of requiring users to manually dig through multiple data sources following a safety trip, the software provides a report that identifies what happened, with actual vs. design intervals.  If the system works as designed, the user can credit the event as a proof test. Trip Analyzer also offers pre- and post-event trends. According to Mr. Stogner, “Some of the early adopters report that it takes them one-third less time to analyze and restart. That’s a much faster return to profitability.”
