Rockwell Automation Releases Enhanced Industrial Computers and Thin Clients for Use in Hazardous Locations and Harsh Environments

Rockwell Automation has released enhanced versions of two of its visualization solutions, the Allen-Bradley VersaView 5200 thin clients and VersaView 5400 industrial computers, for use in harsh locations in industries, such as oil and gas, tire and rubber, and pulp and paper.

Both products are now certified for use in UL Class I Division 2 and ATEX Category 2 hazardous-area applications.  In addition, the products carry a BIS certification for markets in India.  The products are available with these new certifications at no added cost.

Both products are also now available with conformal coating options.  Conformal coating helps protect product circuitry from environmental stresses, such as moisture, fungus, dust and corrosion.

When used with Rockwell Automation’s ThinManager software, VersaView 5200 thin clients can start receiving information once they are plugged in.  Device configuration is not needed, which can result in faster device replacement.  Also, sensitive information is less likely to be lost if a VersaView thin client goes offline because information is stored on a server instead of locally.

VersaView 5400 industrial computers use an open-architecture design to provide users the ability to install whatever software best suits their needs.  They also serve as an appliance within Rockwell Automation’s  FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices software.  This combined hardware and software package provides users access to health and diagnostics data for smart devices to help track and improve their performance.

Rockwell Automation Releases Enhanced FactoryTalk Historian Site Edition Software to Provide Faster, More Secure Data Access

Rockwell Automation announced the release of its enhanced FactoryTalk Historian Site Edition (SE) software with new enhancements that help to make it more reliable and secure.

The software now uses client-side connection balancing and failback.  This balances user connections across multiple servers instead of connecting them all to a primary server.  In larger systems, where many people are making queries for data that can go back several years, this can help to reduce server demand, which can help users to access data in substantially less time.

The FactoryTalk Historian SE software also now offers user-based archive scheduling.  This function allows users to schedule historical archiving during down periods or off hours.  It helps to reduce the risk that archiving occurs during critical processes when it can affect server performance and slow access to data.

To better secure production data, all subsystems within the FactoryTalk Historian SE software are now configured to run under least-required privileges.  This helps to minimize the potential damage unauthorized users can do if they are able to access the system.

The software also now supports the latest operating systems, such as Windows Server 2019.  This can help to extend the lifecycle of systems, which can be especially important for operators of validated systems in regulated industries.

The new FactoryTalk Historian SE software release is part of Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx 5.0 distributed control system (DCS), and uses the same FactoryTalk Services as other software included in the DCS.  This helps to minimize the potential for conflict or errors and help to make installation easier.
