On May 21-22, 2019, ARC Advisory Group will host its European Industry Forum (EIF) in the Meliã Hotel Sitges in Spain.  The European Industry Forum is part of ARC’s successful series of worldwide conferences in the USA, India, China, and Japan.

Clemens Weis, CEO of Grenzebach Digital, will show how a mechanical engineering company tackles digitalization in his presentation on ”Restructuring Internal Software Development with an IoT/Development Platform”.

Restructuring Internal Software Development with an IoT/Development Platform

Mechanical engineering company Grenzebach developed an Industrial IoT platform from scratch.  The presentation will describe its architecture, the direct benefits for production and will show how the internal software development of a mechanical engineering company can be re-structured.  The platform’s design not only allows for connecting devices and systems but also introduces and enforces a service-oriented architecture for internal software projects.

The IoT platform enables the development of apps and allows users to shorten their development times significantly.  Currently most mechanical engineering companies do not focus on the “reusability” of their software components.  The platform allowed Grenzebach to rethink the way they produce software.

The implementation project also made use of the IoT capabilities of the platform.  The introduction of applications like the enhanced machine status reporting is as a first step to introduce predictive maintenance services.  Furthermore, augmented reality scenarios are being developed to make maintenance operations much more efficient.
