ARC Industry Forum Orlando sponsor and IoT cybersecurity provider Irdeto will host a luncheon workshop during our pre-forum workshops on Monday, February 4, at 12:15 PM. The topic is the digital twin and how it relates to IoT security.  A virtual way to inform maintenance on physical equipment and run complex what-if analyses, digital twins are already becoming a key part in the manufacturing industry and could have great potential for security in IoT and connected spaces.  In this workshop presentation, Irdeto will discuss use-cases where digital twins can play a role in the security of connected systems, including hacker prototyping, IP protection, and protecting against backend system attacks.  The presentation will also discuss the wider potential for digital twins in the future security of the IoT and connected environments.

The Rise of The Digital Twin

Digital twin is the phrase used to describe a computerized (or digital) version of a physical asset or process. The digital twin contains a sensor or sensors that collect data to feed the asset model.  In short, the digital twin concept combines the ideas of modeling and the Internet of Things (IoT). ARC has written extensively about the importance and adoption of digital twins in the manufacturing supply chain, and smart cities sectors. As digital replica modeling tools, digital twins support a digital culture of "fail fast, learn quickly" by providing the perfect testing ground for innovative new ways of working. Connectivity to components and equipment provides real-time monitoring and adjustment capabilities. The original concept came from the desire to take all information available on a piece of equipment or asset and then applying higher level analysis to that information.
